Meta apps hurt children – level 2
30-03-2026 07:00
Meta is the company behind Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. A jury in New Mexico says Meta broke the law and must pay 375 million dollars.
The company told people that its apps were safe for children, but the jury found this was not true. They believe Meta didn’t do enough to stop bad people from hurting kids on the internet. Some officials say this is a big victory for families. They think Meta cares more about profit than about children’s safety.
Meta doesn’t like what the judge decided and says it will fight again in court. Many other states are also angry with Meta. They say social media is like a drug that makes young people feel sad or sick. In May, a judge will decide if Meta must change how its apps work.
Difficult words: victory (winning), profit (the money you make), safety (when you are safe from danger or harm).
