Sagrada Família and worried neighbors – level 2

29-04-2026 07:00

The Sagrada Família is a very famous church in Barcelona. People started to build it 144 years ago, and this year, it became the tallest church in the world.

The building is very beautiful, and it has many colorful windows. Every day, thousands of tourists come to see it. They love the tall towers and the special design of Antoni Gaudí. But the project is not finished yet. The builders want to make a big staircase and a park at the main entrance. This plan is a big problem for the people who live nearby. To make space for the stairs, the city must destroy many houses. The neighbors feel afraid because they don’t want to leave their homes.

The city and the neighbors are talking about the situation. It is hard to find a good answer. Some people want to finish the church while others want to protect the houses and the local life. The future of the neighborhood is not clear now.

Difficult words: colorful (full of many bright colors), staircase (steps which lead from one level of a building to another), entrance (a door or gate through which you get into a place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What problem do people living near the church face because of the planned staircase and park?
