In Uganda, there is a big debate about a new law called the Protection of Sovereignty Bill. Civil society groups and former government leaders are very worried because the government is trying to pass this law very quickly.

The law would make it a crime for people to act in ways that help foreign countries instead of Uganda. It would also label any person or group that gets money from other countries as a foreign agent. Critics say this language is dangerous because it can be used to stop people from disagreeing with the government. They believe it looks like laws in other countries that are used to silence people. However, some business owners think the law is good because they believe the government should monitor money coming from outside.

On the other hand, many regular workers, like taxi drivers, fear that if foreign money stops coming into Uganda, businesses will fail and families will suffer. Rights groups and journalists are concerned that this law will stop investment and hurt the country’s future.
