Boys are unhappy at school – level 2
15-05-2026 15:00
There is a growing problem in schools: boys are not doing as well as girls. Experts say that boys have higher dropout rates and lower grades, especially in subjects like reading and writing.
One reason is that the school system wants students to fit into a box. This means sitting still and being very organized. Boys, especially when they are young, often have more energy and find it hard to follow these rules. As a result, teachers often see them as more difficult than girls. This has an impact on their future. Fewer men are graduating from university, which can lead to health and money problems later in life.
Parents are also worried that if boys don’t feel successful at school, they might look for good feelings in bad places online. Some teachers believe that letting children move more would help. School should be a place where everyone feels they can be successful.
Difficult words: dropout (when someone leaves school before they finish their course), fit into a box (to behave or think in a way that people find normal), graduate (a person who finishes a university).
