Macron tells people to be quiet – level 3

20-05-2026 07:00

French President Emmanuel Macron interrupted a youth-focused session at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, to demand silence from the audience.

As speakers were trying to address the crowd, the room became so noisy that Macron stepped in and said it was impossible to speak about culture under such conditions. He criticized the attendees for a total lack of respect toward the inspired speakers on stage. Macron firmly suggested that anyone wishing to have private conversations should either move to the bilateral meeting rooms or go outside. He demanded that those who chose to stay must listen quietly.

The summit in Kenya brought together over 30 African leaders, business executives, and young entrepreneurs to help France strengthen its economic and political relationships across the African continent.

Difficult words: silence (when everything is quiet), attendee (a person who goes to an event, a meeting, or a conference), bilateral (involving two groups, people, or countries).
