Screens and AI toys hurt children – level 2

12-06-2026 15:00

A famous psychologist spoke about technoskepticism and explained three rules to protect children. He says people are social creatures who need real friends and communities to be happy.

In the early 2010s, children started using smartphones, and their social lives moved online. Because they spent less time together in person, young people lost important ways to connect through touch, shared food, and laughter. Now, children around the world are feeling lonely and sad. Young people also spend hours watching very short videos, and they are not able to pay attention.

To protect the teenage brain, don’t let children use social media until they are 16 years old. Second, schools should use real books and paper instead of computers and tablets. For example, Third, parents should be careful with AI toys and chatbots. If an AI robot always responds to a child, the child may attach to the machine instead of their parents. Tech companies must show that their products are safe before we give them to our children.

Difficult words: technoskepticism (when you don’t trust and accept new technologies until you know that they are safe), laughter (the sound and action you do when something is funny), attention (when you can listen, look, or think about something carefully and for some time).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
