El Niño 2026 – level 2
22-06-2026 15:00
Scientists say a very strong El Niño weather pattern started. El Niño is a natural event which happens every few years in the Pacific Ocean. It happens when winds push warm water east, which changes winds and rain around the whole world.
The United Nations wants countries to prepare for dangerous and unusual weather. Because of El Niño and climate change, next year could be the hottest year ever recorded. This will cause different problems in different places. Some areas, like Southeast Asia and Australia, will face terrible droughts and heat. Other places might experience big storms or floods.
Experts say governments must take action now. They need to help farmers protect their crops from bad weather and build cooling shelters to save people from extreme heat.
Difficult words: pattern (a regular or repeated way in which something happens, moves, or is made), drought (a long period of dry weather when there is not enough rain for plants, animals, or people), take action (to start doing something to solve a problem).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
