Earthquake in Taiwan – level 2

A 6.4 earthquake hit Taiwan on Tuesday night. Sixteen people died and hundreds were injured.

Buildings were destroyed, roads cracked and the electricity and water supplies were affected. Also, a hotel building’s ground floor collapsed, and trapped several people.

Difficult words: crack (break into two or more parts), affect (have a bad effect on), collapse (fall down), trap (block, cut off, close in).
