Protesters get into president’s house – level 2
14-07-2022 07:00
Last weekend, thousands of people protested in Sri Lanka against the government. The country is going through a big crisis, and people weren’t satisfied with the government’s solutions.
Protesters gathered at the president’s residence in Sri Lanka’s capital of Colombo where they fought with police. Hundreds of protesters broke through the barriers, and they entered the building.
Videos on social media showed people in a swimming pool in the residence. People shouted that they wanted the president to resign.
The president wasn’t in the building. He left one day before because he knew that protests were coming.
Difficult words: residence (the official home of a politician or other important person), barrier (a fence to block people), resign (to leave a job or office).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
