Elton John at the White House – level 2
28-09-2022 15:00
Sir Elton John is one of the greatest British musicians. In 1998, he performed with musician Stevie Wonder at the White House in Washington DC, US. Last week, he returned.
75-year-old John performed in front of 2,000 people, including teachers, nurses, doctors, and LGBTQ advocates. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden spoke about John’s work, the power of his music, and his goodness. President Biden surprised John with a medal for his activism.
Many celebrities perform at the White House. Joe Biden invites celebrities who are popular and trustworthy. For example, the popular South Korean boy band TBS spoke at the White House to support the COVID-19 vaccine, and they also spoke about crimes against Asian communities in the US.
Difficult words: LGBTQ advocate (a person who supports the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community), goodness (when someone is a good person), activism (activities to achieve political or social changes).
