Bullfighters in France fear that the government will ban their art across the country. The Spanish custom is still allowed in several southern France cities; however, the lawmakers want to ban it, and 75% of the French support the decision.

The custom is known as Corrida; it involves a bullfight with the matador in a shining costume who usually kills the animal with a sword thrust. For supporters, this age-old tradition must be preserved because the south of France is an important stronghold for bullfights. For critics, Corrida is a cruel ritual that has no place in modern society.

Difficult words: thrust (to push suddenly with force), stronghold (a place that is a center for particular activity or belief).
