Ukraine needs more soldiers – level 3
16-04-2024 15:00
Ukraine’s parliament has approved a new law that aims to facilitate the recruitment of new soldiers.
Under this law, all men aged between 18 and 60 are required to carry documents confirming their registration with the military. Additionally, the law offers incentives such as cash bonuses and financial assistance for housing or vehicles to soldiers. The government emphasized the urgent need for new troops because there may be a shortage of personnel in certain areas.
However, serving troops received disappointing news. A clause that specifies time limits on their service was removed from the law. This is particularly upsetting for soldiers engaged in combat since the beginning of the conflict. The decision not to include provisions for demobilization after a specified period has left many soldiers feeling uncertain about their future.
Difficult words: facilitate (to make something possible or easier), incentive (motivation or reward offered to encourage someone to do something), demobilization (discharging soldiers from military service).
