Ukraine needs more soldiers

Ukraine needs more soldiers. Especially in some areas, there may not be enough soldiers soon.

Ukraine’s parliament passed a new law which will make it easier to recruit new soldiers. The law says that all men aged 18 to 60 must carry papers which show that they joined the military. The law also offers rewards like money or help to buy a house or car.

But there is bad news for the soldiers who are already serving. The new law doesn’t say how long they will serve. Before the new law, soldiers could stop their service after three years. Now, they can’t. This makes things hard for soldiers fighting since the start of the war.

Difficult words: recruit (to put someone on the list in the military), military (soldiers), serve (to work for another person or organization).
