Red ants in Italy – level 2

Last year, scientists saw red fire ants in Europe for the first time. Now, they found red fire ant nests in Sicily, Italy.
These ants come from South America and are very dangerous and aggressive. They can damage plants and attack helpful insects. The EU considers these ants a serious problem. The ants probably came to Sicily from Brazil, but no one knows how.
Countries like Brazil, China, and the US spend a lot of money trying to control these ants, but they still cause a lot of damage. So far, there is not much damage in Italy, but there are still more nests. The Sicilian government is working to kill the ants. Workers use steam machines which destroy ant nests. The idea is to kill the queens.
Difficult words: nest (a place where birds or other animals lay eggs and keep their young), aggressive (ready to attack), insect (a small animal with wigs and six legs).
