The United Nations reports that over three million people have been forced to flee their homes this year in central Sahel countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Those living in shelters in the northeast struggle to find food, water, and medical services. Aid agencies say the conflict in this region is one of the most neglected, with thousands killed by groups linked to Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Government forces struggle to control the violence that has lasted for years. Nearly a million people are living in unsafe conditions, often trapped in towns. Aid workers try to reach those still in villages, where they face constant danger and lack necessities.

There is a deep sense of discrimination in global solidarity, as most neglected crises are in Africa. Burkina Faso has been under a military government since a coup in 2022. The leader prioritizes security, the economy, and a return to civilian rule.
