A yacht sinks – level 3
23-08-2024 07:00
Two bodies have been found inside the sunken yacht off the coast of Sicily, which lies about 50 meters underwater.
Divers have faced significant challenges accessing the wreck due to debris and limited dive times, and they had to use remote-controlled vehicles for assistance. The yacht sank on Monday, leaving six people still missing, including British businessman Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah. The Civil Protection Agency of Sicily confirmed the discovery of the bodies, although their identities remain unknown. The captain of the yacht, James Cutfield, who survived the incident, is recovering in the hospital.
No one is under investigation yet, but a water spout is believed to have caused the disaster. The search and rescue efforts continue, although they are complicated by the conditions at the wreck site.
Difficult words: wreck (a damaged or sunken ship), water spout (a rotating water column).
