South Africa illegal miners – level 1
26-11-2024 15:00
Hundreds of workers are hiding in an old gold mine in South Africa for the third week.
The police stop giving them food and water. They want to make the workers leave. But some people and family members are sending these things to help the miners. The South African government is planning a rescue. It does not start yet. The miners do not want to come out. The police may arrest them for doing illegal mining. Some miners already get out. But many are still underground.
The miners do illegal work. There are not enough jobs in South Africa. The rescue may take a few more days.
Difficult words: hide (to stay in a place where people cannot see you), mine (a place where people get minerals and other materials from the underground), miner (a person whose job is to get minerals and other materials from the underground).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why are the miners in South Africa refusing to leave the old gold mine?
