South Africa illegal miners – level 2
26-11-2024 15:00
A group of hundreds of workers are hiding in an old gold mine in South Africa. They hid there about three weeks ago.
The police stopped giving food and water to try and make them come out, but some people and family members are sending these supplies to help the miners. The South African government is trying to make a rescue plan, but they are not doing much yet. The miners will not come out because they may have problems with police for doing illegal mining.
Some miners already left the mine, but many are still trapped. They do illegal work because there are not enough job opportunities in South Africa. The rescue could take a few more days while authorities figure out what to do.
Difficult words: hide (to stay in a place where people cannot see you), supply (something what people want or need), opportunity (a situation which makes something possible).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why are the miners refusing to leave the gold mine in South Africa?
