A court cancels Romania elections – level 2

Romania’s top court stopped the presidential election after accusations of Russian influence.
The election began and was meant to finish soon. Far-right candidate Calin Georgescu, who supports Russia, was competing against pro-European Elena Lasconi. Georgescu won the first round, which caused doubts about the results. He called the court’s decision a success, but Lasconi said it was bad for democracy.
Romania’s security council said Russia targeted the election with special attacks, and an investigation started. Russia denies this. President Klaus Iohannis will be in office possibly until March 2025. People are unhappy with the court’s decision. Parliamentary elections from December will stay the same.
Difficult words: accusation (saying that someone did something wrong), doubt (feeling unsure about something), to deny (saying that something is not true).
