A court cancels Romania elections – level 1

12-12-2024 07:00

Romania’s top court cancels its presidential election. It is possible that Russia is trying to change the result of the election.

Calin Georgescu is a far-right candidate who likes Russia. The other candidate is Elena Lasconi. She likes the EU. Georgescu is not popular at first but wins. People have questions about the result. Georgescu says that the court is not fair.

Romania says that Russia wants to change the election with attacks. Russia says this is not true. Romania’s president will stay until new elections happen, maybe in March 2025. People in Romania are upset.

Difficult words: presidential election (when people vote for a new president), result (how something ends), upset (unhappy, nervous).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the suspicions surrounding Calin Georgescu's win in the Romanian presidential election and how does it relate to Russia's alleged involvement?
