German market attack – level 1
24-12-2024 07:00
In Germany, a car hits people at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. Four people die, including a child, and over 68 are hurt.
Police stop the driver. The driver is a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia. He lives in Germany for 18 years. The man does nothing wrong in the past. Police do not know why he does this. The market is busy when the car drives fast through a gap in the safety blocks. Many people are scared. They try to help others. The police and doctors come quickly.
Germany’s leader says that he feels sorry for the victims. Other markets in Germany are now more secure.
Difficult words: safety block (a block which you cannot move, and it makes a place safe), victim (a person who is hurt or killed), secure (safe).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What measures have been taken in other German markets following the incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg?
