German market attack – level 2
24-12-2024 07:00
A man drove his car into a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. He killed four people, including a child, and hurt over 68 others.
The incident happened on Friday night when the market was full of visitors. The car entered through a gap in safety blocks. People tried to help the injured while police and doctors arrived quickly. The driver was a 50-year-old Saudi doctor who lived in Germany for 18 years, and police arrested him at the scene. Police confirmed that he acted alone, and they found no bombs in his car. The man had no criminal record, and police don’t know his reasons for doing that.
Germany’s leader, Olaf Scholz, shared his sadness and visited the area. Other markets in Germany increased security.
Difficult words: safety block (a block which you cannot move, and it makes a place safe), criminal record (a list of a person’s previous crimes), security (being safe).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What measures were taken by other markets in Germany following the incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg?
