Fake videos about Santorini eruption – level 2

17-02-2025 07:00

People share fake videos of a volcano eruption in Santorini on TikTok and X. AI makes some videos, while other videos are real, but there is wrong information. They confused many people.

One video shows lava in the sea, but experts noticed strange details, like unrealistic water. Another video of people running looks fake because their faces are blurred. A third video shows real smoke, but it is actually from New Zealand’s 2019 eruption.

Some people believe Turkey made these videos to hurt Santorini’s tourism. Santorini is having real problems. Since January, more than 800 small earthquakes hit the island, and many people left. No one knows if a bigger earthquake will happen. The Greek government is giving 3 million euros for help.

Difficult words: confused (unable to think clearly), unrealistic (not looking as things are), blurred (not clear).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What unusual details led experts to question the authenticity of some videos, and what serious challenges is Santorini currently facing?
