An opera singer to change Hungary’s politics – level 3

13-03-2026 15:00

Andrea Rost is a famous Hungarian soprano who has performed on the world’s greatest opera stages. She has also tried other creative work, like jazz, audiobooks, jewelry design, and founding an opera academy.

Recently, she changed her focus to politics to campaign for change and support young talent.

Her first major political action was performing at a demonstration in April 2024, which led to consequences in her music career, but she continued to participate in opposition events.

Now a vice president of the TISZA Party’s and a candidate for office, Rost motivates people through music and public engagement. She believes in fighting oppression and wants her country to reach its potential.

Rost trained formally at the Academy of Music and rose to international fame. She performed at Vienna, La Scala, Salzburg, Paris, London, and New York. She draws inspiration from nature and introspection, and she has led crowds singing freedom songs at political events.

Difficult words: campaign (to work for something, like an idea or election, and try to get support), consequence (something that happens because of an action, result), oppression (unfair treatment or control over people), introspection (thinking deeply about yourself and your feelings).
