There are more wars than you know – level 3
27-04-2026 15:00
There are dozens of wars happening around the world right now; however, only a few appear in global news. Experts say that many wars stay invisible because they are far away from Western countries.
When a conflict doesn’t get attention, there is no public pressure to stop it. This has serious consequences for millions of people who suffer, but nobody knows about it. Many news editors believe that audiences only care about stories that involve people similar to themselves. For this reason, wars in Africa often get less attention than conflicts that affect the global economy. Some people also avoid the news because they find it too depressing or negative. This means that important stories about human rights don’t often reach a large international audience.
To improve this situation, news organizations should work more closely with local journalists. People who live in a war zone understand the situation better than reporters from the outside. Sharing stories about daily life makes the conflict easier to understand. Better partnerships can help the world see that every war is important, no matter where it happens.
Difficult words: invisible (what you don’t see), attention (watching, listening to, or thinking about something carefully), consequence (a result of a particular situation).
