Britain’s political crisis – level 1
21-05-2026 07:00
The Prime Minister of Britain, Keir Starmer, is in big trouble. His political party loses many votes in elections. After that, important people in the government leave their jobs. The Health Minister leaves. He says that Starmer is a bad leader.
Now, other politicians want to take the Prime Minister’s job. It will take some time to choose a new leader, and Starmer is not very strong now. This situation makes things hard for the European Union. Britain and the EU want to meet soon. They want to make a new deal about selling food. Now, nobody knows if the deal will happen.
Some British politicians want to stay away from Europe, but the British economy is doing badly. There is less money and fewer jobs in the UK now. New studies show that 55% of British people want to join the European Union again.
Difficult words: Prime Minister (the leader of the government), party (a group of people who have the same political ideas), elections (when people vote to choose their leaders).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What percentage of British people now want to rejoin the European Union?
