Ebola outbreak in DR Congo – level 1

29-05-2026 07:00

There is a dangerous virus called Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organization says that the danger is now very great.

Many people are sick, and 177 people die. This virus is very bad. There is no medicine to stop it. It spreads fast because many people live close together. People cannot go to funerals now. When a person dies from Ebola, the virus is in the body. It can make other people sick. But some families are angry. They do not believe the doctors from other countries. They even start a fire in one hospital.

Doctors from the UK want to help. Scientists at Oxford University are making a new vaccine, but they need a few months to test it.

Difficult words: danger (the chance that something bad may happen), spread (to move or affect a large number of people), funeral (a ceremony for a person who dies).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why are families in the Democratic Republic of Congo refusing to trust foreign doctors and even setting fire to a hospital?
