Finland’s Marimekko designs – level 2
01-06-2026 15:00
Marimekko is a very famous design company from Finland. 75 years ago, it started making clothes, sheets, and dishes with bright colors and big, bold patterns.
The company started after World War II to bring color to a grey world. At first, people didn’t know how to use these strange, bright fabrics. So, the founder made a fashion show to show them beautiful dresses, and people loved it. Marimekko became world-famous in 1960 when Jackie Kennedy wore one of their dresses on a magazine cover.
The designers get their ideas from nature and small community gardens in Finland. Today, Marimekko is a big part of Finnish life. Almost every person in Finland has something from this brand at home because the bright patterns help quiet people show their happy side.
Difficult words: bold (strong, bright, and clear), pattern (shapes, lines, and colors), founder (a person who starts a new company, school, or organization).
