If you searched on Google in recent months to understand the Israel-Hamas war, you are not alone.
Google’s 2023 Year in Search showed that people worldwide were looking for information about Hamas. ‘War in Israel and Gaza’ was the top news trend in the US and globally. Other searches included ‘what is Hamas’, ‘what is happening in Israel’, and ‘why did Hamas attack’.
The Titan submersible’s implosion and the Turkey-Syria earthquake were also important global news trends. Other top searches included major events and individuals, for example, Damar Hamlin’s NFL game health problems, actor Matthew Perry’s death, and trending personalities like Jeremy Renner and Andrew Tate. There were also movies ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ on the list.
Difficult words: submersible (a small boat which people use for research), major (big or important), trending (popular at the moment).
