60 years of the Canadian flag – level 2

20-02-2025 07:00

The Canadian flag was 60 years old on February 15. George F. G. Stanley designed it, and it became a symbol of Canada’s pride and unity.

Many Canadians feel happy when they see it because it reminds them of their country’s beauty and freedom. People think of the flag when they watch hockey games or important events. Some say it shows how big and comfortable Canada is. Others believe it became even more important in recent years because of world events.

Experts say the Canadian flag is simple and easy to remember. Newcomers to Canada love it because they feel safe and welcome here. Many people are happy to live in a country that gives them a good life.

Difficult words: pride (feeling pleased because you or somebody else did something good), unity (being together as one), newcomer (a person who is new to a place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why does the flag make many feel happy during hockey games and important events, and what elements of its design contribute to a sense of safety and welcome for newcomers?
