A rat has a statue – level 2

08-04-2026 07:00

In Cambodia, there is a new statue of a very brave rat. His name was Magawa. He was not a normal rat; he was a hero who found landmines.

Landmines are dangerous things hidden under the ground that can explode. Magawa found more than 100 of these mines. This made the land safe for children and families. He worked for many years and even received a gold medal for his bravery. Magawa died in 2022, and now people made a stone statue to say thank you.

The statue is in Siem Reap. Cambodia still has many mines from old wars, and the government wants to remove all of them by 2030. This statue helps people remember Magawa and the important work of keeping the country safe.

Difficult words: hero (somebody who people like for doing something very brave or great to help others), bravery (doing something even when you are afraid), remove (to take something away).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

By what year does the Cambodian government plan to remove all the landmines?
