A whale gets stuck – level 2
24-04-2026 07:00
A young whale is in big trouble near the coast of Germany. The whale is in shallow water, and it cannot find the way to its real home in the sea.
People call the whale Timmy. He is very tired, and he doesn’t have much energy to swim. This happened because a fishing net hurt him some time ago. Many people are trying to help Timmy, but the situation is very hard. Scientists use boats to lead him to the deep ocean, but Timmy always swims back to the beach. He is very sick. People watch him every day, and they feel very sad for the poor animal.
A scientist says that Timmy will likely die soon. The water here is not good for him because it is not salty enough. This story shows us that fishing nets are very dangerous for all sea animals. We need to be more careful. Everyone hopes Timmy will be okay, but the chances are small.
Difficult words: shallow (when there is not too much water), deep (water which goes down a long way from the surface), poor (someone who is in a bad situation).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What risk associated with fishing nets is highlighted by Timmy’s story?
