A whale in a river – level 1

A beluga is a whale. It is small and white. It lives in cold Arctic waters. Hundreds of belugas usually live together. The animal is very sociable.
A beluga gets to the French river of Seine. The animal stays a week there. It swims one hundred kilometers.
The whale doesn’t eat. It is scared. It is very weak. Rescuers want to help the animal. They want to help it get to the sea.
A team of 80 people work together. They use a crane. They lift the animal and put it on a truck. They take it to the Normandy Coast. This work never happens before.
The animal becomes very sick during the drive. Veterinarians decide to end its life. It is too sick to go to the sea.
Difficult words: sociable (a person or animal who likes to be with others), crane (a tall machine which lifts and moves things), truck (a big car that moves big and heavy things).
