Afghanistan Peace Talks – level 3

The Taliban’s leadership has agreed to a temporary cease-fire.
It will give the US and the Taliban about a week to work out a peace agreement, which would end the 18-year war in Afghanistan. As a condition, the US wants assurances that the country will not harbor terrorist groups.
After over a year of negotiations, the US and the Taliban reached a peace deal, which involved withdrawing over 5,000 US troops from Afghanistan. However, Donald Trump, the US president, ended the negotiations later that month after the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in Kabul, which killed 10 Afghan civilians and one US service member.
In November, Donald Trump said that the US will reduce the number of US troops in Afghanistan from around 12,000 to 8,600, but the US will not leave Afghanistan until there is a deal or a total victory of the US.
Difficult words: cease-fire (an agreement between two armies to stop fighting in order to have discussions about peace), harbor (to keep someone safe), withdraw (to take away from a place or a position), suicide bombing (a bomb attack done by a person who wants to kill himself as well as other people).
