Afghanistan Vote – level 3
07-10-2019 07:00
Recently, Afghanistan held its presidential election, but there were problems and around 20% of registered votes came to vote.
People were afraid to vote because of Taliban threats. One voting official said that 68 Taliban attacks happened during the voting, killing at least five people and hurting dozens. There were also problems with identifying voters through biometric identification, hostile election workers, and incomplete lists of voters.
Now that 20% of Afghanistan’s voters will decide the next president. The main candidates are the current president, Ashraf Ghani, and his chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah. People will find out the results in November.
Difficult words: dozens (more than 24), biometric identification (using your body features to identify you, such as your eyes, fingerprints, or voice), hostile (angry).
