African artists make money on Spotify – level 2

10-04-2025 07:00

Spotify paid 59 million dollars to artists from Nigeria and South Africa in 2024. This is much more than before.

The growth of African music made this possible. Big African stars like Burna Boy and Tyla helped bring attention to their music worldwide. Nigerian artists earned almost 38 million dollars, and South African artists earned 21 million dollars. A lot of this money came from fans outside Africa.

The success of these artists helped other African musicians make money from their music. More and more musicians are getting the chance to earn a living through their work. African music is becoming more popular, which is good for the music industry.

Difficult words: growth (when something grows), attention (focusing on something), earn a living (to make enough money to pay for things like food and housing).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How have international audiences and major stars such as Burna Boy and Tyla helped expand opportunities for Nigerian and South African artists?
