Alabama executes Kenneth Smith. They use nitrogen gas. It is a new thing. It never happens before.

The new way uses a mask. The man gets only nitrogen through the mask. He stops breathing. Some people do not like it. Smith has a hard time during the execution. It lasts 22 minutes. The White House is worried about it.

Many people and countries do not agree with this way of execution. They say that it is too long and too painful. Alabama does it anyway. People think that other US states may do the same in the future, too.

Difficult words: execute (to kill a person who does something very bad), execution (killing a person who does something very bad), painful (when something hurts very much).
