Algerian President – level 1

Abdelaziz Bouteflika is the Algerian president. He first becomes president in 1999. People elect him again in 2004, 2009 and 2014.

Some people elect him. Some people do not. Some people criticise him. They say that he becomes president illegally.

In 2019, he is still president. He wants to be president for more five years. He tells this to people. They start to protest.

Most recently, he stops being president. He tells this to people. He is ill. He is 82 years old.

Difficult words: elect (choose a leader), illegally (not legally – criminally), most recently (a little while ago).
