Attack at Somalia hotel – level 1
24-08-2022 07:00
A group of men attack a hotel in Mogadishu. The city is the capital of Somalia. Politicians often meet in this hotel.
The attack happens last Friday. Two bombs explode outside the hotel. The attackers run inside. They kill 12 people. They hold some people hostage. Some people run away.
Nobody really knows how many attackers are in the hotel. They belong to Al-Shabab. Al-Shabab is a militant group. It is a part of Al-Qaeda.
Al-Shabab controls southern and central Somalia. It fights against the government. Al-Shabab may want to control other parts of the country.
Difficult words: hostage (a person who somebody traps to get something), militant group (a group of people believe something so strongly that they fight for it), government (the people who lead a country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
