Australia floods – level 2
21-12-2023 07:00
Severe floods hit Northeast Australia after heavy rain from former Cyclone Jasper.
Record-breaking rain caused flash floods. In Ingham, a town of 5,000 people, some saw a crocodile in a storm drain. The Great Barrier Reef town faced triple the average rainfall in 40 hours, which led to evacuations of thousands of people and power loss. Forecasters predict more rain and they issue flood warnings. Rescuers are ready to help anywhere where troubles start.
Australia is experiencing extreme weather, with the Northeast battling floods and the Southeast on Bushfire alert.
Difficult words: flash flood (a sudden flood), average (usual), alert (being watchful of possible danger or problem).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are the current weather conditions in Northeast Australia and how are they affecting residents?
