Big protests in Bolivia – level 2
02-06-2026 15:00
Bolivia has a very big political problem. Nearly a month ago, local people started blocking about 60 important roads across the country. Because of this, big cities don’t have enough food, fuel, or medicine.
People are very angry; some have to sleep in the cold for days to buy gasoline. The protesters, including many indigenous people, want the President to leave his job or start new elections. They don’t want to talk to him because he broke his promises. President Rodrigo Paz won the election last October, but he later made decisions that hurt poor people and people in villages.
The government tried to give people more money and land, but the protests didn’t stop. Now, the President wants to use a state of emergency and send soldiers into the streets to clear the roads.
Difficult words: block (to close a road or a place to stop people or things from passing), gasoline (petrol or diesel which you burn to get energy), indigenous (people who live in a country or area since the beginning).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do the protesters, including many indigenous people, want President Rodrigo Paz to do, and why are they refusing to talk to him?
