Black water in a fountain – level 1
05-04-2023 07:00
The Last Generation is a group of climate activists. They take action to protect the natural world.
Last weekend, three men and one woman step into a famous fountain in Rome, Italy. The Barcaccia fountain is from the 17th century. It is at the bottom of the famous Spanish Steps. Thousands of tourists come here every day. The activists pour black liquid into the fountain. The water turns black. On social media, the activists say that changing weather has a bad impact on water in the world. It rains a little. Farmers do not have enough water to grow crops. Sea levels are rising. World leaders and people do not care about these problems. Black water in a fountain is more shocking for them.
The police arrest the activists. They are in custody now.
Difficult words: crop (a plant which grows in the field), sea level (where the sea meets the land), shocking (very bad or unpleasant).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What consequences do the activists face for their actions?
