Brazilian athletes and the Olympics – level 1
14-05-2024 07:00
Brazilian athletes from Rio Grande do Sul are helping people after big floods.
Rowers Evaldo Becker and Piedro Tuchtenhagen help rescue people. Swimmer Viviane Jungblut also wants to help. She says that she will not take part in the Olympics. World surfing champion Italo Ferreira and Brazil’s judo team coach, Antonio Carlos Kiko Pereira, are helping too. Athletes can move away and get ready for the Olympics somewhere else. But many stay and help. Former Olympic athletes, like gymnast Daiane dos Santos and swimmer Nicholas Santos, are helping too.
The floods in Rio Grande do Sul hurt many people. More rain is coming. There may be more floods.
Difficult words: floods (when there is too much water in rivers), rescue (to save someone), former (happening in an earlier time).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
