Brussels bans e-scooters – level 1

25-06-2026 07:00

Brussels will stop all rental e-scooters in January 2027. Other big cities like Madrid, Paris, and Prague already stop them too.

Leaders say that the small electric vehicles are dangerous. Many people hurt their heads in bad accidents on them. Also, people park them in bad places on the streets. This makes walking very difficult for old people and children. The government also says that bad people use the scooters to do crimes.

Brussels wants the streets to be safe for everyone. So, the city will put many more regular and electric bicycles on the roads for people to use instead.

Difficult words: rental (when you pay to use something rather than buying the thing), regular (normal, usual), instead (in the place of something else).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What will the city do to make the streets safe for everyone?
