A terrible cable car crash happened in Italy on Sunday.

Tourists and local people traveled by the cable car from the town of Stresa to the top of Mottarone Mountain. Just before the end of their 20-minute journey, a cable suddenly broke. The cabin fell 20 meters to the ground, and rolled down a steep slope. Then, trees stopped it.

14 people died in the accident and two children ended up in hospital. Local authorities started to investigate what happened. The cable car opened again recently after a break from COVID, but operators checked the car. They planned to change the cable in 2029.

Difficult words: cable car (a system of cabins which hang on a cable and they take people up and down a mountain), slope (a steep part of a hill or mountain), operator (a person or company that runs and controls a machine).
