Chile’s New Constitution – level 1
18-11-2019 15:00
There is a difficult situation in Chile. One month ago, big protests start.
Protesters do not like the high prices of public transportation. They start fights and fires in the streets. 20 people die. Protesters want better rights for the Chilean people and a new constitution. They do not like the constitution which they have. It comes from the time of dictator Augusto Pinochet.
The Chilean government is working on a new constitution. It is a long process. When the constitution is ready, people can go to a referendum and vote. It can take two years to have a new constitution.
Difficult words: constitution (a system of laws and rules of a country), dictator (a person who has a total power over a country), referendum (a voting for all people in a country about an important political question).
