Church Sex Scandals – level 3

Hundreds of bishops came together for a seven-day retreat near Chicago to reflect on sexual abuse scandals in the church.

The retreat is yet another move by the Catholic Church to respond to the ongoing clergy sexual abuse scandal which has defamed the institution. Last month, Pope Francis decided to remove two cardinals from his group of advisers who are facing allegations related to the scandal.

Pope Francis is also scheduled to meet with bishops from around the world next month to discuss preventing clergy sexual abuse.

Difficult words: retreat (a quiet place, typically in the country, to talk and figure out problems), defame (damage a reputation), allegation (when somebody says that you did something illegal, it is an allegation because we do not know if it is true).
