Companies take people’s land to build data centers – level 1

24-06-2026 07:00

Many new big data centers are opening in Georgia. These buildings need a lot of power. So, a big company is making many new power lines.

These long lines go through the backyards of normal homes. Workers cut down many trees, and the yards look bad now. People are very sad and angry. They say that their houses cost less now, and they cannot sell them.

The company gives some money to the people, but the parents say it is not enough to move away. The law says the company can take the land even if the people say no.

Difficult words: data center (a large building with thousands of computers), line (a long, thin piece of metal which carries electricity), backyard (an area of land or a garden behind a house).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How have the new power lines affected homeowners' yards, property values, and decisions about moving?
