Cuba has no oil – level 1
19-05-2026 07:00
Cuba has no more oil. There is almost no energy left for the country. This is happening because the US is stopping other countries from sending oil to Cuba.
Now, the island has big power cuts. People have no energy for 22 hours every day. They live in the dark. They cannot use their fridges, so food goes bad quickly. There is also very little food to buy.
Because life is so hard, many angry people go into the streets of the capital city. They burn things. Protests are not usual in Cuba. The police usually stop them. The US says that it will give money and help, but only if Cuba changes its political system. People are tired of the situation and want change.
Difficult words: left (what stays behind or what is still there), power cut (when the electricity stops working), change (when something becomes different).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What does the US want Cuba to change in order to receive money and help?
