David Hockney dies – level 3
18-06-2026 07:00
The celebrated British artist David Hockney has died at his home in London at the age of 88, just a month before his 89th birthday.
Hockney was widely recognized as one of the most influential figures of the modern era and a key leader of the 1960s pop art movement.
Throughout his long career, he was a creative genius who loved to experiment with different mediums. He constantly innovated by using traditional paint, photography, and even digital iPads to capture the world around him. Hockney is perhaps best known for his stunning, sun-drenched paintings of swimming pools in California, which explored light, water, and joyful colors. In 2018, one of these iconic pool paintings sold for nearly 70 million pounds at an auction, and set a record for a living artist.
He worked hard for four to six hours every single day because drawing gave him a clear purpose, always following his one simple rule: paint the things you love.
Difficult words: recognized (known and accepted by many people as being very good, important, or famous for something), genius (an exceptionally smart or talented person who can do or make something much better than almost anyone else), sun-drenched (a place or a scene that is filled with bright, warm, and beautiful sunshine).
